Ben For Best Job

How to be the perfect Island Caretaker ? Great Barrier Reef, here I come !

Gday Sundays #1 for BenForBestJob!

September15

Last weekend, I attended the G’DAY Sundays event, organized by http://www.australia-australie.com/, in which people meet to talk about Australia. Some are back from a WHV (Work Holidy Visa), some are looking for documentation in order to plan a WHV, and other are talking about their experience during The Best Job in The World, and about Queensland, obviously! I was there and I really enjoyed meeting so many people and describing my faboulus adventure.

I managed to explain to everyone that they could participate in the contest and win 7 weeks of a wonderful holiday trip in order to help Ben Southall by registering on http://islandreefjob.com/best-experience/landing.php

Have fun and see you soon !

Raining today? Who cares, you’re on Daydream Island!

May5

That’s right unfortunately. We spent all day on rainy Daydream Island. But I realized that even rain could be nice!

Once the Vessel Boat dropped us on Daydream’s harbour, we were given some Daydream branded umbrellas to protect ourselves from the rain gods, and to enjoy our stay in this beautiful resort.

Fishes do not really care about the weather so we were able to feed them at the living reef lagoon. The hotel has a great artificial built-in structure allowing tourists to discover and to feed fishes they might not be able to see otherwise. We all went to feed the huge stingrays. We also admired the feeding of the sharks and of “Henry” the cod. Stingrays were really docile and impressive, but I preferred taking care of the beautiful star fish!

The weather did not allow us to have our sailing event as planned. But if it is rainy on Daydream Island, that’s no worries mate !

You can spend your whole day in the Rejuvenation Spa, in which we had an extraordinary moment! (Parents, there is a Kid Skipper club for your children while you are at the SPA!)

I experienced a 1 hour Botanical Regeneration (body exfoliation, steam table, scalp massage), but you can also try like 30 other ones (hot stones, facial, etc.)

We came back to Hamilton Island and were introduced to a Great Barrier Reef Ranger who told us about some keys facts of this gigantic amazing living ecosystem.

Then, we had a team activity in which creativity, organization, management and acting were required. In my team (with Myriam, Ben S., Yi, Greg) we decided to give each of us a sea animal role. I actually got the crab’s one, and had to explain to the audience what corals were. All I can say is that it is really hard imitating the crabs’ moves!

Lyon supports Ben For Best Job!

April28

Last week,  I had the opportunity to meet the Mayor of Lyon, Mr Collomb.  He really wanted to support me getting the Best Job and did find an original way to do it:

ben-jumps
(understand: The Best Job for a man from Lyon ? Let’s all support Ben on benforbestjob.com)

As Lyon is a great city, I decided to share with you 5 things about it:

The Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvière

It is the main basilica in Lyon. It was built with private funds between 1872 and 1896 in a dominating position in the city, as a mark of the triumph of Christian values over the socialists in 1870.

Guignol

Guignol is a French puppet born in Lyon in 1808. Its creator was Laurent Mourget.
Last year, we celebrated Guignol’s 200th anniversary!

Festival of lights (very touristy)

This uniquely Lyonnaise tradition dictates that every house place candles along the outsides of all the windows to produce a spectacular effect throughout the streets. It is complemented by colourful video projections on the town monuments.

Bouchon Lyonnais (gastronomy)

A bouchon is a typical restaurant in Lyon with a very convivial atmosphere. Compared to other forms of French cooking the dishes are quite fatty, such as sausages, duck paté and roast pork.

Vieux Lyon (very touristy)

The Vieux Lyon is the picturesque medieval and Renaissance district of Lyon. This is one of the most extensive district of the medieval period and Renaissance (with Venice), which is still intact today.
